Have you ever had one of those days? You know, the ones where your hair won't curl just right, you woke up with the Mt. Rushmore of zits and you simply cannot locate the shoes that match so perfectly with the dress you have on? But then, it doesn't matter, because you've just spilled your morning OJ on said dress? Uh oh...now you're late for first period.
We've been there! And a large percentage of days that start off like this usually don't get much better, right?
Why? Because if your day starts negatively then you generally don't get off on a positive mental note and everything else will follow suit. So here are some quick tips on how focusing on the positive can literally change your day, week, life!
The Dilemma: The crazy morning, as mentioned above.
The Solution: So you'll put your hair in a cute pony tail, throw the dress in the wash, put on that cute tee shirt and your favorite jeans, make it a cool and casual day and show up to school, just this once, fashionably late. Then vow that enough bad stuff has happened to you so early in the day, that the rest of the day just has to be fabulous! And we bet it will!
The Dilemma: The top button on your favorite jeans will barely close/ Your mini skirt seems a little too mini today and you're feeling self conscious/ That tank top never felt as snug as it does today.
The Solution: Don't panic, no, you're not getting fat. One of the biggest natural occurrences that a lot of people fail to take into account is that our bodies change! They change with what we eat, they change with the time of the week, month, year it is, and they change with our age. So, if you're eating and moving well and still trying to squeeze into jeans that fit you two years ago, it might be time to accept that your lovely body has decided it would like to be a lovely size larger, and that's great! As long as we are healthy, our bodies will be the size that they are happy at. The positive is that not only do you get to update your closet and get rid of those looks from years ago but you'll feel and look better in your clothing. Even if you just bought those jeans, that mini skirt or that tank top, our bodies change every day. As long as you leave the house in something comfortable that you feel good in, you'll look good too. Nobody wants to be that girl at school who is constantly tugging at her ill fitting pair of shorts!
The Dilemma: The girls have gathered in the lunch room for a lovely round of "which part of my body do I hate the most?"
The Solution: Perhaps you aren't crazy about your short legs or your skinny arms, but there are probably 25 other things that you LOVE about yourself, you just don't really think about them that much. Why not have a body love-fest? Do you love your skin tone, your eyelashes or your cute cropped hair cut? Great! It's best to focus on those things and focus on the positive about your body that most likely far surpass the negatives. Nobody should walk around brooding about their weird eyebrows when the odds are, nobody else has even noticed!
The Dilemma: You're best friend has been acting weird and hasn't returned your calls in two days.
The Solution: We're sure that every scenario has run through your mind, she's angry because you returned that borrowed skirt a day too late, she hates my new boyfriend, she simply just doesn't think I'm cool enough anymore. But if you think positive, maybe she's been really busy with school work or a club she's involved in, maybe she things you're avoiding her, maybe she's been grounded by her parents for something and hasn't had a chance to tell you. Your best bet is to not brood and confront the issue. Letting worst case scenarios run wild in your head will most certainly zap your positivity.
The moral of the story? In order to look your best, feel your best and have a group of happy people around you, try to focus on the positive. When a negative thought invades your mind, push it out and think of something that makes you laugh or smile. We guarantee that doing this just once a day will start a trend and a happier person, you will be.
